Obama's Got Game

Ground Game that is...Obama Wins Hamilton Straw Poll

According to the article Obama had the best ground game at the Hamilton County (Ohio) straw poll.

But Obama supporters seemed well-organized at Tuesday's straw poll, with volunteers out on the street in front of the theater passing out Obama T-shirts and stickers, and urging the arriving Democrats to vote.

Obama received 35% of the vote while Hillary and Edwards were in the low 20's. As for those the other campaigns.

Edwards' supporters had some signs plastered to the walls inside the theater lobby, but there seemed to be no organized effort for Clinton.

If this is the level of grassroots support the Obama campaign is getting in a purple county in Ohio it's going to be massive in the early primary states.

If I had a nickle... (none / 0)

for every time I have heard about a wave of new young voters, I would have gotten rich back when I was young and believed that line.

There is very little I want to believe more than a massive wave of new young voters following Obama into the polling booth.  But I have been burned too many times to believe it until I see it.

Man.  I am getting cynical in my old(er) age.

Re: Now THESE are the kind of Polls (none / 0)

Who said they matter? I'm just saying that it's an indication grassroots strength.

Re: Now THESE are the kind of Polls (none / 0)

The fact that Obama's campaign had, by far, the most effective presence at the event tells me something. You can ignore that if you want.

How strict was it? (none / 0)

Were only Hamilton County residents allowed to vote?  Was residence verified?

Don't have details but the article describe the voters as "local democrats".

The poll seemed to be well run. Here is a blog entry

The ballots were counted by optical-scan voting machines operated by volunteers from the county's board of election.
