Stanley Ann Dunham Soetoro - "simply the white women from Kanas"
She is Obama's true moral compass. NYT - The Long Run
"She felt that somehow, wandering through uncharted territory, we might stumble upon something that will, in an instant, seem to represent who we are at the core," said Maya Soetoro-Ng, Mr. Obama's half-sister. "That was very much her philosophy of life -- to not be limited by fear or narrow definitions, to not build walls around ourselves and to do our best to find kinship and beauty in unexpected places."
Obama:
I think sometimes that had I known she would not survive her illness, I might have written a different book -- less a meditation on the absent parent, more a celebration of the one who was the single constant in my life," he wrote in the preface to his memoir, "Dreams From My Father." He added, "I know that she was the kindest, most generous spirit I have ever known, and that what is best in me I owe to her."
A little late but the Canadian media finally gets the story right. I know it won't stop the Hillary/McCain distortion fest but the truth is out there.
A nice write up is here DailyKos - mattw UPDATE I missed the original mattw MyDD posting HERE
The most interesting part of the CBC video package is the side by side comparison of Hillary and McCain's initial attack response. They used almost exactly the same words. Interesting...
Hillary is airing this fraudulent AP news report on the radio in Ohio. News Day
"This is an election news update with a major news story reported by the AP. While Senator Obama has crisscrossed Ohio giving speeches attacking NAFTA, his top economic advisor was telling the Canadians that was all just political maneuvering. A newly released document from the Canadian government shows that Obama's senior economic advisor met with the Canadian Consul General and made clear that Obama's attack on NAFTA were just, quote, "political maneuvering," not policy. Political maneuvering, not policy. In fact, the document shows that Obama's advisor also assured the Canadians that these attacks against NAFTA would not continue. Obama would not want to be, quote, "fundamentally changing the agreement." As Senator Obama was telling one story to Ohio, his campaign was telling a very different story to Canada. How will Ohioans decide whether they can believe Senator Obama's words? We'll find that out on election day. Paid for by Hillary Clinton for President."
the ABC article Clinton Remained Silent As Wal-Mart Fought Unions contains some interesting history but it's central theme is
In six years as a member of the Wal-Mart board of directors, between 1986 and 1992, Hillary Clinton remained silent as the world's largest retailer waged a major campaign against labor unions seeking to represent store workers.
Hillary's defense is that she worked hard on womens rights during her 6 years on the board. What was the result of all her hard work?
Critics say Clinton's efforts produced few tangible results, and Wal-Mart is now defending itself in a lawsuit brought by 16 current and former female employees.
The women's lawyer put it bluntly.
"I don't doubt the sincerity of her efforts, but we don't see much evidence that conditions for women at Wal-Mart changed much during the late 1980s and early 1990s,"
Eric Zorn states the obvious in his latest column Chicago Tribune 1/22/08)
Hmm. I see no reason to stop short. Bill and Hillary Clinton have lied brazenly about Obama's recent statement about Ronald Reagan.Let's look at the transcripts (emphasis added):
Eric lays out the actual words used by Obama and the distortions of Bill and Hillary and concludes....
Read it all again if you want, you won't find "better" or "good" in there, or synonyms or implications along those lines. When the Clintons used "better" and "good" in alluding the Obama's remarks, they weren't paraphrasing, they weren't misremembering, they weren't distorting. They were simply lying.
It's plain to see now. Hillary's campaign has a voter suppression stratagy. This writeup Hillary Clinton's Dirty Campaign Tactics tells the sordid story with an eye on the long term damage Hillary is doing to the party.
In NV...
the Nevada State Education Association is widely seen as filing a suit on Clinton's behalf to stop Las Vegas' most powerful union, Culinary Workers Local 226, from caucusing inside downtown casinos after the union endorsed Barack Obama. The tactic foments a split along racial and class lines in arguably the strongest union city in America."It's horrible", said one longtime Nevada activist, "It will cause fights and damage that will last for years.
Following up on CardBoard's Diary...I'm happy to see the push back against the Clinton slime machine (currently lead by Madrassa Bob Kerry) is in full force.
It's hard to express how odious I find Bob Kerrey. His behavior as a Senator was entirely discreditable, and it's hard to see that he's done anything good in his life in non-Senator roles. Keeping it up, he's now following up on his "Barack Hussein Obama" remarks by alleging that Obama attended a "secular madrassa" whatever that's supposed to mean. The Obama campaign's been pretty successful at painting Team Hillary as unduly nasty and, frankly, the stuff they were dishing out previously was child's play compared to this BS.
Note to Kerrey: Barack Obama never attended a "secular madrassa" -- an inherently contradictory term because a madrassa is, by definition, a religiously-based school. The claim that Obama attended a madrassa didn't come from blogs, but rather from right-wing outlets. Insight Magazine, a right-wing magazine tied to the Washington Times, first reported in January that Obama attended an Islamic madrassa school as a 6-year-old child. Fox News then amplified the smear.
Odious
While campaigning on behalf of Hillary Clinton this week, former Senator Bob Kerrey became the fourth Clinton supporter this month to raise a false smear against Barack Obama, one of her main rivals for the Democratic nomination. Adopting the bigoted language of lies that have circulated about Obama on the Internet, Kerrey falsely implied that Obama attended an Islamist school
Ground Game that is...Obama Wins Hamilton Straw Poll
According to the article Obama had the best ground game at the Hamilton County (Ohio) straw poll.
But Obama supporters seemed well-organized at Tuesday's straw poll, with volunteers out on the street in front of the theater passing out Obama T-shirts and stickers, and urging the arriving Democrats to vote.
Obama received 35% of the vote while Hillary and Edwards were in the low 20's. As for those the other campaigns.
Edwards' supporters had some signs plastered to the walls inside the theater lobby, but there seemed to be no organized effort for Clinton.
If this is the level of grassroots support the Obama campaign is getting in a purple county in Ohio it's going to be massive in the early primary states.
